The New Colossus By Emma Lazarus
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame,
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
My name is Weston DeKoning and I am part of the graduating class of 2014. I have been part of the Hartford Basketball team for four years, Hartford Tennis team for three years, and Hartford Baseball team for a year. I have played in the jazz band and symphonic band for four years in high school and am planning on pursuing this in the future in college. I enjoy biking with my family in the summer months as well as running and working out. I am planning on attending the University of Wisconsin Platteville for a major in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Biology. Some day I would love to work in the medical field at a company like Abbott Laboratories or other medical company designing medical supplies and drugs.
